Tasty Tuesday (North Aire Market) + Giveaway

North Aire Market

So you want your family to have the best of homemade cooking but maybe you just don't have the time or maybe you just don't feel up to the challenge that some of your favorite recipes require.  Well no fear...Maggie & Mary's North Aire Market can help!

The North Aire Market carries a huge variety of soups, cheeseball mixes, beverage mixes, and dip mixes.  And the best part is that they are all super easy to prepare.

Mommy in PA recently got a chance to try North Aire Market's Chicken Dumpling Soup and here is what she thought:

First off I just want to say how easy this was to prepare.  You add your water to your pan and whisk in the seasoning.  Then you boil that for awhile and add in your dumplings and continue to boil.  Then you just simmer until it is done.  Super easy!

I also love that it made my house smell very good!  It smelled like I'd been cooking these up all day.  And it only took a little over half an hour from start to finish.

Now I'm not a huge fan of dumplings (don't care for the consistency) but this was very good.  It tasted just like homemade.  The chicken flavor was excellent and I love the fact that there was even little slivers of carrot
in there (see photo above).

I'm really excited about ordering some of their other soup flavors.

To find out more about North Aire Market or to order some of their yummy products click here.  Also be sure to enter for your chance to win a package of Chicken Dumpling Soup by using the Rafflecopter form below.

Thrifty Thursday - Smiley 360 Kmart Mission!

Mommy in PA says:  Recently I received an invite from Smiley 360 inviting me to sign up for the Kmart Decorate it Forward Mission.  Of course I was super excited because they were offering a $15 Kmart gift cards to start my Christmas Shopping at Kmart.  Well I haven't gotten anything new as far as Christmas decorations go in quite some time so this was perfect!
I was thrilled when I got to Kmart yesterday and saw that they are currently running deals on a lot of their Christmas decorations so I was able to snag quite a bit of nice things for my $15.  Here is what I got:

1.  Believe Tealight Garden (normally $21.99) I paid $10.99
2.  Jaclyn Smith Tinsel Garland in Midnight Clear (normally $5.99) I paid $4.01
and
3.  Trim A Home 3 piece towel set (normally $12.99) I paid $6.49

So for only a couple of dollars out of pocket my entertainment center looks a little more entertaining....or should I say...festive!

Now I will admit that when I first got there it was really overwhelming trying to decide what to get with my gift card.  There were just so many pretty things that I really liked.  My advice to avoid spending too much time looking in the store (especially if you have little ones in tow) is to use the Kmart Online Christmas Shop to find what you are wanting before heading out.  This should save you a little bit of time anyway.

Another thing that came in really handy was that I also had $10 worth of Shop Your Way Rewards Points already on my card so I was able to pick up a couple of more things while I was there.  If you aren't familiar with the Shop Your Way Rewards Program you should really check it out.  I've earned lots of points the past few months just getting the stuff I need anyway.

Also be sure to visit the Decorate it Forward page to send your friends a virtual ornament or purchase a St.Jude collectible bear ornament to donate $1 to St. Jude.

Thanks to Smiley360 and Kmart I am giving away a $15 Kmart gift card to one lucky reader.  Just enter using the Rafflecopter form below for your chance to win.

Washing Wednesday - Kristine's Shower

Kristine's Shower

Do you like bath and body products that are unique and make you feel totally pampered?  If so then you need to check out the products made by Kristine's Shower.  Mommy in GA and mommy in PA each received one of the Sample Stackers for use in our review.

Our samplers each contained the following:
1. Bathbomb
2. Body Sorbet (Lick Me All Over scent)
3. Aloe Vera Whip
4. 100% Soap
5. Body Frosting (Peach Fuzz scent)
...Our apologies for not having all of the scents listed...
But here is what we thought of the products...

Mommy in GA says: We both got the same products and I remember opening mine and being excited about the smells alone!!!

The body frosting was my favorite!! To use this in the winter and have your soft skin feel softer or your rough skin feel smoother!!

The Body Sorbet was a nice way to follow the body scrub to reinforce your moisture and I really like the way it smelled!

The 100% soap was a nice change from your regular run of the mill soap and it smells way better too.

I have not tried the BathBomb because I do not usually take the time to soak in the tub (you know 4 kids+ a dog+ housework= not a whole lot of time to soak in the tub!)  However to the great reviews my aunt's little boy has given (lol) I definitely intend to soon.

Mommy in PA says:  As soon as I opened my package from Kristine's Shower I knew it was going to be heavenly.  I could smell the Bathbomb and it instantly became my favorite product in the whole sampler.  I just LOVE the scent!  My 7 year old son ended up stealing it from me though and liked it so much that he actually wanted to save some of the water...which he did in a bubble bath bottle.  He loved how it smelled and thought that it turning the water blue was really cool.

The Body Sorbet worked really well at softening my skin but I didn't stick to using it as much as I normally would because I really did not like the scent.  Now if I would have had that in the same scent as the bathbomb I would have wore it all the time.

The Aloe Vera Whip was very cooling, you are actually supposed to use it if you get sun burnt but I used it as a regular lotion and I loved it!

100% Soap was my second favorite product.  I loved the scent and I love how it made my skin feel.  It didn't make my skin too dry or too oily it was just right.

The Body Frosting didn't last long at all.  My daughter and I used it all up within a week.  The scent was wonderful and it left my skin super smooth.

To find our more about Kristine's Shower products or order some of your very own you can check out their website.

Storytime Sunday - "The Art of TV Guide"

"The Art of Tv Guide"

By Jerry Alten

Mommy in PA says:  "The Art of TV Guide" by Jerry Alten was my most recent choice for review.  It is a 164 page hardcover book which includes illustrations and photographs from the covers of TV Guide and information about the artists and photographers who were responsible for showing the public what to expect within it's covers.

The author, Jerry Alten, was actually the art director for TV Guide from 1968 through 1997.  In the book he is kind enough to give us a real inside glimpse of all the things that are considered when choosing a good cover artist and or photographer and includes 50 artist/photographers to give a great example of all types of work that were chosen to grace the covers.

I originally chose this book for it's visual appeal but ended up very engrossed in the information about the artists and photographers.  At first I didn't really care for the organization of the book but then I decided not to read it like a usual book but to look through it for the illustrations and photos I liked the most and read about those.  There are sections about sports, sitcoms, war, tv families, news, cops, faith, etc.  A little bit of something for everyone.  It also really makes you realize how important illustration was and still is in getting the point across when photographs just can't pull it off.

I think this would make a great gift idea for someone who really loves their tv shows.  I also think it would be great for an art lover.

To purchase your own copy of "The Art of TV Guide" you can go here

Storytime Sunday - Tough Plants in a Fragile Land

"Tough Plants in a Fragile Land"

Saving Our Planet, One Garden at a Time

By:  Fritzie Von Jessen

"Tough Plants in a Fragile Land" is the story of how Fritzie Von Jessen is doing her part to help out our fragile planet.  Fritzie, who is originally from Denmark, had moved to New York City as a young girl, then to Long Island with her husband (this is where she really began her gardening skills), and finally to California's Colorado Desert after her kids were grown and her and her husband had separated.

Fritzie does a great job explaining how using native plants not only gives you a unique look compared to your neighbors lawns but also is beneficial to the environment.  She also explains how using native vegetation is easier to care for than trying to grow things that are not used to the environment.  You also don't have to use all those chemicals when you are growing native plants so that is good for the environment and yourself.

"Tough Plants in a Fragile Land" is full of gorgeous photos that really draw you into what it is like to live in the desert.  Let me tell you, it is so much prettier than I ever realized.  The vast amount of plants and animals that live there was amazing.

This book is a great combination of the author's life, history of the Colorado Desert, beautiful pictures, and a great reference section about desert plants.  Even though I don't live in a desert (haven't even visited one) this book still gave me a lot of great ideas on how to incorporate native plants into my own yard.  I will just have to get past the fact that everyone else will probably still just call them weeds.  This is one of those books that you don't just read and move on, I will be coming back to this again and again.

This book would make a great gift for the gardener in your life.
To purchase your own copy of "Tough Plants in a Fragile Land: Saving our Planet, One Garden at a Time" you can go here

Eco Lips

Mommy in GA and Mommy in PA recently got a chance to try Eco Lips.  If you haven't heard, Eco Lips makes a huge variety of organic lip balms.  So not only are you keeping your lips soft, you are also helping yourself and the environment in the process.  Eco lips was kind enough to let us each choose the lip balm products that we wanted to try out.

Mommy in GA chose:
Eco Lips Energy:
When you put the Ecolips Energy on you get a revitalizing tingling sensation and it does not have the odd after taste you get when you use some of those other lip balms.
Picture of Eco Lips Energy Lip Balm

I also received the Eco Lips gold with an Ecoclip!  This was very handy as I could attach my lip balm to my key chain!!  All these little ones, I remember what they need and forget half my stuff but attached to the keys it is difficult to forget that winter necessity!!!!

Another thing I love about the Eco Lips is that it is an organic product, but, when you apply it you would never know that it works as good, if not better than your run of the mill Lipbalm or chap stick!!!

Mommy in PA chose the Restore Soothing Lip Balm and the Honest Kids in Tropical Mango Punch.
The kids and I loved both of these but we all preferred the scent of the Tropical Mango Punch.  I was very impressed at the lasting ability of both.  Even for those prone to licking their lips these stayed on quite well.  You can actually feel a barrier over your lips unlike some of the competitors that seem to wear off super quick.

To find out more about Eco Lips you can view their site here, follow them on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter.  One lucky winner will receive an Eco Lips Gold Balm on Eco Clip, you can enter via the Rafflecopter form below.

Chris Mann "Roads"

Chris Mann Roads Album

Mommy in PA says:  I was super excited when I got the email that I had been chosen to preview the Chris Mann Roads Album from One2One Network.  I am always looking for new tunes to listen to but usually have a hard time finding music that I really enjoy.  This was not the case with the Roads album.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Chris Mann, about a year ago Chris was competing on The Voice and now he is releasing his major label debut.  A pretty amazing feat for the singer who likes to mix classical music with other genres to create a unique style all his own.

The Roads album is comprised of the following songs:
"Roads" (produced by Keith Thomas)  This is the song that really makes you understand what the whole album is about.
"I Need You Now" (his version of Lady Antebellum's song)
"Cuore"  (Chris co-wrote this one based on Bach's "Air on a G String")
"The Blower's Daughter"  (Chris sings with Christina Aguilera)
"My Way"  (Paul Anka reworked this for Chris so that instead of it being about a man looking back on his life it was a young man looking hopefully ahead)
"Unless You Mean it"
"Always on My Mind"  (Made famous by Willie Nelson)
"On a Night Like This"
"Ave Maria"
"Falling"  (Chris co-wrote this one)
"Viva La Vida"  (A widescreen take on Coldplay's anthem)

To get a preview of the songs you can go here.

After listening to each of these songs over and over this weekend here is what I thought:  Chris has a voice that really gets to you.  I know a song is good when it can give you chills.  Needless to say most of these were in that category.   I typically don't care for remakes of songs but his were beautiful.  He really puts his own unique spin on everything he sings.  Another thing I really liked is that my children even liked listening to his music.  I listen to a bit of everything but normally my family doesn't listen to anything even close to classical except close to Christmas time (this will be a great exception).  I love how he puts so much emotion into his songs, you can really feel what he has been through.

The album is being released on 10/30.  You can order the album through Itunes or Amazon.  And to find out more about Chris you can check out chrismannmusic.com.

Disclaimer:  I received the above album for free from One2One Network.  I am also being entered into a drawing for posting my review of the album.  All opinions in the above post are my own.

Thrifty Thursday (Budget Gadgets)

Budget Gadgets

Are you looking for a great gift idea but don't want to spend a ton of money?  Then you should check out BudgetGadgets.com.  They have a huge variety of items and they have low prices too.  Mommy in GA and mommy in PA spent hours trying to decide what items we wanted to review.
If you are looking for some great Halloween costume accessories and don't want to spend an arm and a leg than you should check them out.

Puzzle Box

Mommy in PA says:  I chose a puzzle box for my review item.  It sells for $3.31 which is a great deal for the entertainment value.  It was so funny watching my family try to figure out how to get into this thing.  I think I'll order a couple of these to use as Christmas gifts and shove money inside then just sit back and watch the hilarity ensue.
I was very impressed at the huge variety of items on the site.  There is literally something for everyone on there.  I would have showed more pictures of my puzzle box but it would have given the solution away.

Mommy in GA says:
I chose to do the silicone protective cover for the wii controllers. These are priced at $3.64, to protect your wii controllers, that is a small price to pay!!
Above: Is a picture of my poor bland and boring wii controller :(

Above: Is a picture of my new and improved (also well protected!!) wii controller!!
While the ones from Budget Gadget are not as cushy as your other options, my kids' are rough on stuff and I couldn't beat the price.  Even if it doesn't last long (which I will keep you posted, I am pretty optimistic.) It has already lasted a month and that must be some kind of record here!! (LOL)

Spooktacular Week - Day 3 Tanner's Tasty Paste

Keeping with our Halloween theme this week and sticking with our normal washing Wednesdays we figured today would be a great day to talk about brushing our teeth.  We all know how important that is come Halloween time with all the extra sweets around.  And that is why we are talking about Tanner's Tasty Paste today!

To give you a little background of Tanner's Tasty Paste:
Dr.Janelle Holden is the mastermind behind Tanner's Tasty Paste! Her love of dentistry started when she was a young girl, and her career started as a Dental Hygienist in a successful pediatric dental practice in Beverly Hills, California.
From there she returned to the University Of Southern California School Of Dentistry where she earned her dental degree. After that completed her post doctoral residency in Pediatric Dentistry at USC, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and Miller's Children's Hospital of Long Beach at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
Dr. Holden now has a thriving practice in Manhattan Beach, California, devoted  to the treatment of children, from infants to teens. She is dedicated to providing quality care for all children including apprehensive children and those with special needs.
Her close interaction with children led her to the flavors the children responded to best and helped her create the Tasty flavors for Tanner's Tasty Paste!! If the toothpaste tastes better, your kids' will brush their teeth more and more frequently, If that happens your kids' have less cavities and less cavities mean happier and healthier trips to the dentist!!
I think all of us as parents' should thank Dr.Janelle Holden, so THANK YOU!!!!

Tanner's Tasty Paste comes in 3 different flavors':
Cha Cha Chocolate
Banilla Bling
and
Baby Bling

Mommy in Ga received the Banilla Bling:  I used this for my girls, ages 9 years, 7 years and 6 years.  I was a little nervous because my girls' are very picky, our toothpaste is too hot(spicy if you take the word of my 6 year old!!) or it taste funny or the texture is wrong, etc....  you catch the drift lol!!  Anyway I got the Tanner's Tasty Pate and told the girls' that we were going to try something new.

At first I got the expected complaining, "we hate the toothpaste you buy, you never buy anything we like" so I pulled the Tanner's Tasty Paste out of the box and showed the girls' the tubes.  They were excited already about the tubes because they are cool, they have pictures and are cartoony to draw them in and then when they tasted it they were excited because it tasted better than any of the toothpaste I brought home before!

Another great thing about the Tanner's Tasty Paste is that for the Banilla Bling it is a Vanilla Ice Cream flavor with xylitol (a cavity reducing natural sweetener) No Saccharin(which is an artificial sweetener)  No sodium lauryl sulfate, Gluten free.  So the Tanner's Tasty Paste is a natural alternative to the toothpaste that has the warning labels that do use these products!

Mommy in Ga also received the Baby Bling to review:  I used this for my 3 year old little boy.  He like the other kids' was not fond of many of the other tooth paste but, he did enjoy the Baby Bling!  This is also vanilla ice cream flavored, who wouldn't want to brush their teeth with vanilla ice cream??!!

Baby Bling is a Non-foaming product that DOES NOT contain fluoride, saccharin or sodium lauryl sulfate.
Also if you are like me and read the labels on your products, the warning where most toothpaste companies put on there do not let your child swallow this product, WHAT??!! They are putting it in their mouths, how do you keep them from swallowing it?! Anyway on Tanner's Tasty Paste Baby Bling it is safe to swallow which is reassuring because your little ones are more likely to swallow it!

To find out more about Tanner's Tasty Paste or to get some of your very own click here.

On that note I would like to end my review with the statement:  We will be giving 1 lucky winner a tube of the Tanner's Tasty Paste Banilla Bling and also 1 Tube of Tanner's Tasty Past Baby Bling so make sure you sign up for that contest below via rafflecopter!!!

disclaimer:  I did receive a tube of Tanner's Tasty Paste Banilla Bling and also a tube of Tanner's Tasty Paste Baby Bling in exchange for an honest review and ALL opinions are my own.

Spooktacular Week - Day 2

Sun Cups by Seth Ellis Chocolatier

So we are pretty sure that almost everyone we know knows someone who suffers from a peanut or other nut allergy these days.  This is something we really need to consider when purchasing products for our children to hand out at school or for us to hand out to trick-or-treaters.  That is where Sun Cups by Seth Ellis Chocolatier come in very handy.

These chocolate cups are nut free, gluten free, and organic.  They come in four varieties (Milk Chocolate Sunflower Butter, Dark Chocolate Sunflower Butter, Dark Chocolate with mint, and Milk Chocolate with Caramel.

Mommy in GA and Mommy in PA were lucky enough to get to sample every flavor and here is what we thought of them:

Mommy in GA: OK so I got to try these with my four little ones and if your kids' are anything like mine, everything chocolate goes!!!!

We got to try the caramel milk chocolate: The kids' and I absolutely love this one!!! It was delicious!!

Milk chocolate sunflower butter:  The kids' thought this one was good ( I did not get any of that one lol)

Dark chocolate sunflower butter: This one was not a family favorite but, we are not huge fans of dark chocolate so it wasn't the candy!!

Dark chocolate with mint: This one was actually my 9 year olds favorite BUT she is a mint lover and also said it would have been better if it wasn't dark chocolate (but, again not lovers' of the dark chocolate!!)

Mommy in PA:  I tried them along with my 14 year old daughter and 7 year old son.  The first ones we tried were the caramel.  My daughter thought they were just OK but my son and I both thought these were very delicious.  The next ones we tried were the mint.  I was the only one who actually liked these but my son despises mint in any form, he doesn't even use mint toothpaste.  Next we tried the milk chocolate sunflower butter ones.  These were a huge hit with my daughter.  I initially thought it was gross but after I chewed it up I realized it was quite tasty.  My son thought it wasn't very good.  Last we tried the dark chocolate sunflower butter.  We got surprising results from this one...my son loved them and my daughter and I didn't.  All and all I was very pleased with the outcome as everyone found at least one flavor they liked which is one step closer to healthier snacking.

To find out more about Sun Cups you can check out their site here.  Also be sure to check out the awesome deal on the sampler (comes with one of each flavor) for $1.99 and it also comes with a discount coupon!
