Tasty Tuesday

Asher's Chocolates

Mommy in PA was very excited when she found out she was going to be able to try a sampling of Asher's Chocolates.  See Asher's Chocolates has been around since 1892 when Chester A. Asher opened a small candy shop in Philadelphia.  They are currently located in Souderton, PA and Lewistown, PA and are run by the fourth generation of Asher's.  I love companies with a deep family history (It's just neater that they are in my state too).

The chocolates I received to sample were the Assorted Mini Seashells.  This worked out perfectly because my family and I were able to try the milk chocolate, dark chocolate, peanut butter, and white chocolate.  I could tell right away that these were a high quality chocolate, they have a stronger taste that we really liked.  I was very impressed with their dark chocolate, my seven year old even liked it.  The Peanut Butter wasn't bad but it really wasn't what I expected.  The milk chocolate tasted totally different from any milk chocolate I've had, very tasty.  The white chocolate was my favorite, a little strong, but totally delicious.

Asher's doesn't just make solid chocolates either.  They have a wide variety of different foods dipped in chocolates.  I especially like the sound of the Milk Chocolate Smothered Graham Crackers....Yum!  The best part is that even with the high quality of their chocolate they are still very reasonably priced.  I could see myself ordering their gift baskets for holiday gifts.

The thing I liked best about their site was how easy it was to find what I was looking for, they even have a thing along the side that lists categories by ingredient so if you are looking for something in particular it is very easy to find.  The only thing I didn't like was how hard it was to decide what to try....so many yummy chocolates to choose from!

To find out more about Asher's Chocolates or order some of your own you can view their website here.  Also be sure to check out their variety of sugar-free and gluten-free chocolates.  They also offer a chance to win free chocolate.

Maybe Monday (Product Review!!!!)

Today's Maybe Monday is my monthly smead blogging program!!!! I received a Financial Kit that helps you organize your bills, receipts,401 K etc....   You can use this product before vacation but, i personally used it to get my bills in order! Yall know what i am  talking about when i say the "Bill Drawer"  It is the embarrassing drawer you pray nobody opens when they come to visit, i was going to post a picture of this but again, was too embarrassed! Okay now that i have generalized what i used it for i would like to tell yall a little about the product.

I received it in my regular mail, in an envelope and it was very neatly packaged separately as you can see above, in order to better put your box together!!!
You get the folders and tags to label them, you get 4 blank labels and the rest are for like your 401K and financials and bills etc....  you label them and file your paperwork accordingly (very simple even for a scatterbrain like myself!!!!)

After you get everything labeled and filed you put them inside the folder and after you fold them up you stick them in your easy to use, easy to store box!!!

Making getting organized a much easier task, even for me!!

disclaimer: I did receive the product above in exchange for my honest opinion, all opinions are my own!

Storytime Sunday

This week for storytime sunday mommy in Ga would like to share a tip!!  My 9 year old daughter and my 7 year old daughter love the books that are series rather than single books, they are a lot like me and love to get to know the characters and the backgrounds, they like to get drawn into the story!

Another great thing about the series are that they are the gift that keep giving! My kids go back to school tomorrow and if you look through all the scholastic fliers that get sent home you can order the series through them or your local book store online or even at walmrt, they make great birthday presents, or Christmas presents, a fun treat for if they have been good or have done the chores.

My 9 year olds favorite are the Magic Tree House series.  She LOVES them, when she starts reading she doesn't want to put it down until she is finished with the entire book.

Some other great series that range in ages are:

Diary Of a Wimpy Kid
Harry Potter
39 Clues
Fancy Nancy
Junie B Jones
Moody Judy
and of course Dr. Seuss

These are just to name a few and most of these are popular hits right here in my house!!  Hopefully this storytime Sunday has been helpful to you and hope to see you here next week!!!!!

Thrifty Thursday

This week for Thrifty Thursday we wanted to share this great money saving product.   SnackTAXI is not only easy on the pocket book but they are also good for the environment.  SnackTAXI makes a variety of reusable bags and napkins that are all machine washable and can be used over and over again.  The idea is to cut down on the number of plastic bags going to the landfills.   Mommy in GA and Mommy in PA each received the sandwich-sack and snack-sack for our review.

Here's what the snackTAXI looks like when you get it in the mail, cute!

The velcro makes them easy for kids to use too.

Look at the great craftsmanship involved in making these able to be used again and again.

The best thing about this product is that they are machine washable.  We also like the fact that their materials are free of lead, phthalates, and BPA so not only are we keeping the environment cleaner but we are also keeping our families safer.  And we even have a photo of them in use (plenty of room).

Mommy in PA says:  I can definitely see myself using these in the future.  This would be great for my seven year old's lunch and also my hubby takes sandwiches everyday for work and these would be awesome for that.

Mommy in GA says:  I could also see myself using these to pack the kids' lunches.  I would have to buy 2 more sets in order to not have a fight about who got to take the snackTaxi, my kids' all thought they were the coolest things ever!

These come in a bunch of different patterns so there's sure to be a design for everyone in your family.  You can see the different designs or order one of your own by going to snackTAXI

Washing Wedensday

 Earth Friendly Products

Mommy in GA and Mommy in PA recently got a chance to try out some of the Earth Friendly Product Line.  Earth Friendly Products has a vast assortment of household cleaning products, paper products, and products for our pets.  Their products are all free of toxins, petrochemicals, bleach, ammonia, phosphates or other harmful ingredients.

Mommy in GA received the:
Laundry detergent, Fruit and Vegetable Wash and a roll of Paper towels.

Mommy in Ga says:  I apologize for not providing a pic of the paper towels, They worked so great that they are gone!!!

The Laundry detergent is fantastic....the scent is Magnolia & Lily and smells awesome!! I was worried about how clean they were going to get my clothes because i have always wondered if they actually work as well as they say they do, needless to say i was pleasantly surprised!!
The Laundry detergent is 50 fl oz. yet does not take up extra space in my laundry room which is ideal because my laundry room is not very big.  It cleans all the clothes very sufficiently and also leaves them smelling fresh when they come out of the dryer. Also on that same note, they build in a natural coconut softener in the detergent, so they are also static free when removed from they dryer!
It is gentle on your clothes yet effective on dirt and gentle on the skin of my little ones at the same time
The ingredients are:  100% natural anionic coconut kernel oil based surfactant, horsetail plant, coconut oil based fabric softener, essential oils of magnolia & lily and purified water
For tough stains you can pour the detergent right on the stain, rub lightly and wash as normal.
Also due to the fact that natural ingredients are used , color and body may vary.
The only warning is to keep out of reach of children.

The Fruit and Vegetable Wash left my fruits and vegetables clean and as it states there were no after taste or odors left behind from the cleaner, i am very impressed as it only took seconds to use and the kids could dig into the fruits and veggies and i did not have to worry about them having left over residue or missed dirt.  It also takes care of any waxy build ups.
Use the spray and cover your fruit or vegetables rise with clear warm water and dry with a paper towel (which you can also purchase with these other great earth friendly products!!!)
Ingredients are: water and plant derived surfactant
Because natural ingredients are used the body and color may vary.
Keep out of reach of children.

It says the body and color may vary, Mine were both clear and all of my products tested turned out to be great additions to the household!!!!!

Mommy in PA says:  The first thing I tried was the dishwashing cleaner and I must say that I was very much impressed.  I will admit that I have always been a little skeptical on how good a natural cleaner would really perform after using brand name products most of the time.  The dishwashing liquid listed it's only ingredients as Water, Coconut Oil Derived Surfactants and Grapefruit Oil.  Well let me tell you what, that stuff worked just as good as any of the other dishwashing detergents I have ever used.  That and I really like the smell.  I'm not a really big fan of grapefruit as a food but for a scent it was really nice.  I honestly thought that this wouldn't give me enough suds but it did.

Now on to the Orange Plus All Purpose Cleaner.  It is made from Water, Pressed Orange Oil,  Ethanol (derived from corn) and Biodegradable Surfactants (plant derived).  I had to put this one to the ultimate test...my stove.  After spraying once it had removed most of the build up and after the second spray and wipe down there were only a couple of small grease spots which just needed a little more elbow grease.  I love the orange smell it leaves the house smelling nice.

Tasty Tuesday

Cakedy

Mommy in PA and Mommy in GA recently got a chance to try out these tasty candy bars from Cakedy.  Be sure to read our review and fill out the rafflecopter form at the bottom for your chance to win!

Mommy in Pa received the Peanut Butter Cakedy and the Mint Chocolate Cakedy.

About Cakedy:  Cakedy is a combination of cake on the inside and melted chocolate on the outside.  You can learn more or purchase your own by going here.

Mommy in PA says:  We tried the Peanut Butter one first.  The peanut butter one is peanut butter cake, butterscotch, and melted chocolate on the outside.  My 7 year old son said that it was "Good, tastes like chocolate mixed with peanut butter kinda".  My 14 year old daughter said "Interesting flavor, taste more butterscotch than anything".  I thought that it was very good but also very rich tasting.  The butterscotch was almost too strong for me.

Mommy in PA says:  We tried the mint one last.  The mint is chocolate cake, mint, and melted chocolate on the outside with pretty green stripes on the top.  My 7 year old son said "Mint is kinda powerful but I can still taste the chocolate".  My 14 year old daughter said "A little minty, sorta tastes like a brownie".  I thought that it was very pretty with the green frosting drizzled on the top.  I expected the mint to be a bit stronger but this one was my favorite.

Mommy in Ga received the Velvet love cakedy and the Redhead cakedy
Don't they look delicious??!!
The Velvet Love is fantastic all of my kids' and myself liked this one best!! It is a Red velvet cake coated in a melted white chocolate that was hardened over the cakedy and drizzled with chocolate.....YUMMY!!!!  I think the kids liked it because there was so much chocolate but, not an overdose if ya know what i mean??!!

The redhead we tried second and all the kids and i liked this one too but the Velvet Love was a little better!! The redhead was strawberry cake nougat with melted white chocolate hardened over the top and drizzled with strawberry icing!!!! Again this was good too but, we REALLY liked the Velvet Love!

Storytime Sunday

"The Tale of a Turtle Who Learned a Good Lesson"

ByWilliam K. Zimmer

Illustrated by Judith A. Zimmer-Baker

This week's Storytime Sunday is about "The Tale of a Turtle Who Learned a Good Lesson" by William K. Zimmer.  Tobias is a box turtle who lives under a fallen tree in a meadow near a pond.   Tobias starts out as a very grumpy turtle who complained a lot about his shell.  He would see the lizards running all about and felt very jealous of them and how they could move so quickly and gracefully.

Tobias didn't really talk to anyone but the one day when he returns to the fallen tree he meets a toad named Lumpy.  Lumpy tries to explain to Toby, short for Tobias, that the lizards are fast but they don't seem very friendly.  Soon Toby and Lumpy are the best of friends.  Toby even ends up saving Lumpy's life from a snake by using his shell to protect him.  But Toby still doesn't see the value of having his shell.

One day, when Toby was going for his usual walk to the berry patch he happens upon an evil vulture who tells Toby that there is a magical place he can go to loose his shell.  The vulture tells him to travel to this magical place and that he will meet him there in three days.  Well the magical place ends up being the highway and we all know what vultures like to eat.

Luckily for Toby, Lumpy found out where he was going and the story ends up having a happy ending.  Toby also ends up having a dream about his shell coming off and the snake being able to eat him.  He then realizes how scary it would be to not have his shell.

This is a great story to let people understand to accept themselves just the way they are.  I love how the author totally immerses you into the surroundings in the beginning with all the details about the pond, the brook, and the meadow where Tobias lives.  The pictures are also very beautiful though my seven year old and I both agree that more pictures would be better as this is a pretty long story and he was losing interest between pages.

The author had me a little worried at the part where Tobias has the dream about losing his shell.  See I didn't realize it was just a dream and thought that the author believed a turtle could come out of his shell like that.  I almost shut the book and didn't read the rest but figured I better keep reading.  I was relieved when I understood what the author had done there.

So to sum up, great story, great lesson for everyone, great pictures.  We would have liked to see more pictures.

"The Tale of a Turtle Who Learned a Good Lesson" is published by Dorrance Publishing Co, Inc.  and can be purchased by going here.

Tasty Tuesday

Perky Jerky

This week for Tasty Tuesday we wanted to let you all know about the great jerky made by Perky Jerky.  This company started out completely by accident when two skiers unintentionally combined a package of peppered beef jerky with a can of energy drink.   You can read the whole story here, and we recommend you do as it is very entertaining.

Now this is not your regular run of the mill jerky either.  Consider it jerky with a boost of energy (don't worry, they don't soak it in energy drinks...not anymore anyway)  The company uses Guarana to get the kick.

Mommy in GA and Mommy in PA recently got a chance to sample some of the Ultra Premium Beef Jerky and some of the Ultra Premium Turkey Jerky and here is what we thought about it:

Mommy in GA says: This is too funny cause i read what mommy in pa said and we are the total opposite!!!  We really liked the turkey jerky but, my kids are smaller so the sweeter meat enticed them and well as for me i am a wimp and the beef was spicier!!!
We opened both packs while having friends over and the friends seemed to like both but, again the turkey seemed to be the winner!!!
We appreciate getting to taste these cause we love to try new things and share with yall what you will be spending your money on!!  The packaging and background for these guys are really cool too! Yall should definitely click on the links below to learn more.

Mommy in PA says:  Well my hubby and my daughter are both huge jerky fans so we were super excited to get our samples in the mail.  It didn't take them but a minute to have a package open and all but gone.  I had to pry the bag away from them just to get a taste.  The first thing I noticed was the sweetness.  This was quite a bit sweeter than the beef jerky we are used to.  That didn't stop us from finishing the bag off and leave us wanting more.  We then opened the turkey jerky.  This was not our thing at all.  None of us could get past the turkey taste.  I mean it wasn't terrible but we all agreed it just wasn't for us.

We took what jerky we had left with us down to my in-laws house for their 4th of July celebration.  I let some of his family members try the beef jerky first.  They all agreed that it was very good and I was really glad that I had left one bag back at my house because the rest of it was gone in just a few minutes.  The turkey jerky got mixed reviews.  Some people didn't like it but my brother-in-law reached in and grabbed a handful and shoved it in his mouth.  I didn't see the opened package again after that.

To find out more or to get some of your own you can go to their website, subscribe to their newsletter, follow them on facebook, or follow them on Twitter.

Giant Microbes

Mommy in GA and Mommy in PA recently got a chance to check out these cute plush microbes from Giant Microbes.  These aren't your normal plush toy, these are also educational.  Each Giant Microbe comes with an informational tag that lists important facts about them.

Mommy in PA says:  The Giant Microbe we received was "Bone Cell".  It was really interesting reading the card to find out how bone cells work together to form our bones.  My seven year old liked the Bone Cell so much that he asked if there was a way to buy more of them.  I told him yes, and he told me that he is saving up his money to buy more.  I think these would be great for teachers to use in their classrooms.

Mommy in GA says:  We got our amoeba in the mail the other day, my kids were SOOOOO excited to get it!!!!!   In fact they were so excited that within minutes of being in out home our newest members' name is Amable the amoeba!!  I love that this new toy is educational and it is even cute!  The girls' love that it is nice and soft.  They carry it around and try to take it everywhere we go.
I went online to the giantmicrobe store and was looking around at the different products, besides the plush microbes they also carry the vinyl, coffee mugs for mom and dad, t-shirts for the whole family and if dad is feeling particularly germy he can wear the microbe tie to work!!!
We really enjoyed reviewing the product and our kids were educated to!!! We hope yall will visit the site and take a look!!!!!

Storytime Sunday

The Calabash Tales

Calabash Tales

Written by:

Penny P. Abrams

Mikki

Today for storytime sunday mommy in Ga is reviewing The Calabash Tales.  I picked this book to review by letting my girls' look through all the books to choose from and they thought this one was pretty cool.  We like the art work on the cover too!!

The story was very touching! It is about a young iguana named Greenie who is friends with an older named Old Fred iguana.   they start talking about the beach and Greenie wants to see it, he can't believe Old Fred has been to the beach.  Fred tells Greenie he will show him the beach so, they make the long trip to see it.  They meet several new friends on the way!

The 2 iguanas think the adventure is over once they finally make it to the beach but, it turns out it has only begun because Old Fred realizes there is about to be a hurricane.  Old Fred tells Greenie they need to make a shelter and collect food and water because when the hurricane comes it will ruin everything.  All of the new friends they met laughed at them or thought they would survive even if a storm came so none of the friends' made a shelter but, they were nice enough to help the iguanas make theirs.

The hurricane comes and to make the story short and not ruin the book (because i think yall should purchase it!!!) and the friends' were not safe but, the iguanas were nice and safe in the shelter although  it was still scary!  After the storm they went out to find their friends and help them clean up.

After all the friends were safe Greenie made another new friend, a young iguana that looked just like him, his name was Jumper.  Greenie took him back to his home, the Garden and the Iguanas became a bigger and happier family!

I read this story to my three girls and their cousin, and i asked them for feedback here is what they said.

Morale of the story by my 7 year old and her 7 year old cousin:  2 lizards that have friends teaching you to work together and make a shelter, also be nice and help somebody who does.'t have a family and they also taught that friends' can take friends' to new places.

my 6 year old said:  I liked the end because they were telling the mom stuff.  I liked the beginning  and i didn't like the middle but, i don't know why

My 7 year old:  I liked it at the beginning when he went to see the beach and i liked the end because they were a bigger family oh and when they saved their friends'!!  I didn't like it when the big storm scared Greenie.

My 7 year old niece:  It was long and i didn't like it.  But, i did like the end when they had a bigger family.  ( I swear to yall i thought she was going to say she liked the end because it was over...lol!!!!!!!!!!!)

My 9 year old:  I liked everything (she is my child of many words!!)

My opinion is that this is a very good story and yall should read it with your families it teaches many good lessons and also has great illustration, All of the kids made great points, as far as being to long i made them sit through all 59 pages at one time, so that was probably my fault!!!

Disclaimer:  I received this book from durrance publisher in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own.
