Back To School - Student Edition - Week 2 Day 4 - Newman's Own Organics

disclaimer:  We received the products below for free in exchange for our honest opinions.  All opinions remain our own.

Newman's Own Organics

For those of you who have been with us for awhile, you already know of our fondness for Newman's Own Organics...if not than you can see our other posts here and here.  This is one of the first organic food companies we reviewed and they helped us see that organic doesn't have to mean blah : )

We decided that "Back to School Week" would be the perfect time to introduce or reintroduce the Newman's Own Organic brand to ya'll.  Great snacks for in the kiddos lunches or for after school...and they are healthy...need we say more?!?!

Here are the products we received this time to try and our thoughts:

Mommy in GA: These were pretty addictive after you started eating them :)  They were salty enough and also had a good crunch to them :)

Mommy in PA:  We all agreed that the initial taste was a little off but once you started chewing they were pretty darn tasty.  They could have used a little more salt.  We loved the fact that they are larger than most pretzel sticks : )

Mommy in GA: The kids' were not huge fans of the fig newman's but, I personally really like them!! They taste as good as the ones with wheat and dairy as far as I am concerned!!

Mommy in PA:  My daughter refused to try these because she has never liked anything fig.  That's ok though because my son and I LOVE these!  They are soft and chewy and have the perfect amount of filling.  Hard to believe these are wheat and dairy free.

Mommy in GA: This was okay but, I am that person in front of you at the movies, asking for more butter please!!  So I really wanted more butter other than that I thought it was pretty good. The only thing I noticed is these have to stay in the microwave a little longer than your other popcorn brands :)

Mommy in PA:  I personally LOVED it and my hubby said it was pretty good.  My son on the other hand didn't care for it.  Just the right amount of flavor for me.

Mommy in GA: This one the kids' tried on accident and they were not fans!!  I heard a lot of "Mommy can I put salt and butter on this? It tastes kind of like cardboard!!"
I then tried some and also agree it could have used salt and butter but, If those are things you are used to not having this is your perfect match!

Mommy in PA:  This was a little bland for our taste buds but what do you expect from unsalted right?!?!  So we decided to spice it up a bit with some cheese flavor and it was delicious.  We all loved it that way.

Mommy in GA: I really liked these, they were a nice snack I could grab a handful and do what I was doing, they left me feeling kind of full so I wasn't going back all day for more!

Mommy in PA:  My daughter ate almost the entire bag herself.  She said they were good but wished the vanilla flavor had been a little bit stronger.  My son and I also thought these were good but didn't get to eat very many.

Mommy in PA:  My daughter was really excited about the green tea.  She is the only hot tea drinker at my house (besides when my mother is here) so I allowed her to have it.  She really liked it, said it was perfect with a little bit of milk and sugar.

Mommy in GA: My 8 year old was the only one brave enough to try these (I have a thing about raisins!!)  She liked them , no wait they weren't good, hang on I'll try it again, I like them ....hang on not good. We are unsure even after 5 cookies where she stands firmly.  She kept going back so they couldn't have been all bad!

Mommy in PA:  My son and I were the only ones to try these.  I handed him a piece and took one for myself...I watched his reaction.  His eyes got really big and I asked him if they were good?  He started shaking his head yes but then he put up his finger as if to tell me to wait a second.  He was reacting to the aftertaste...very strong.  I had to agree, the initial taste is great but the aftertaste is way too strong and just wasn't our thing.

Mommy in GA: This post is bittersweet for me. These were so good, I had to steal a bite from my 5 year old to even get a taste of these!! They went quick and were LOVED by all!!!

Mommy in PA:  I LOVED these!  And luckily neither of my kids wanted to try them so I got them all for myself : )  They are the perfect combination of mint and chocolate, who could ask for more?!

Mommy in GA:These were not our favorite product but, They are a good alternate for people that need the wheat and dairy free.  They were ok enough that my kids' ate the entire package (we even had other snack options on hand!!)

Mommy in PA:  Looks like chocolate...smells like chocolate...unfortunately didn't taste like chocolate : (  I guess it had something to do with the fact they are wheat and dairy free but nobody in my household liked these.  Something just wasn't good with the aftertaste.

We were also super excited that Newman's Own Organics now even has printable coupons for some of their food items and even a rewards program for their pet food!

Thanks to Newman's Own Organics, one lucky reader will receive our four favorite products.  Be sure to enter via the Rafflecopter form below : )

Nordstrom - A Place for Online Shopping

disclaimer:  The following information is a sponsored post.  We are receiving compensation for the post but only post things we believe will be helpful for our readers.

Nordstrom – A Place for Online Shopping If you have kids and I am guessing you do since you are reading this then you know just how difficult it can be to shop for kids shoes. They like what they like and sometimes it can be hard to convince them to accept the shoes that will bring them the most comfort. Nordstrom proudly has a huge selection of children’s shoes to pick from insuring that you can find the shoe that is not only in style, but a shoe that will make your child feel comfortable. With a Nordstrom promo code you finally can afford the best line of shoe brands for your child. Let’s take a look at what Nordstrom has in stock for your child today.

Athletic shoes Oh if only we had the energy of a child. Their active and love nothing more than to run around the house, play games, or enjoy football with their friends. Your child needs Shoes that can entertain their passion for activity and excitement. Nordstrom offers a wide selection of athletic quality shoes that will make your child the star of a backyard football game. The Nike Airmax running shoe is an overall perfect athletic shoe that fits into most situations. Whether your child is running laps at school or simply walking up a flight of stairs their feet will feel comfortable with these special pair of kicks. When you use your Nordstrom coupon codes you can pick them up for an incredible deal.

Formal Shoes It’s not always romp time with children. Sometimes you are forced to take them with you out of the house where they must look the part and represent your family well. From dinner banquets to Church your little one has to dress the part. It can be a hassle to find something cute for your child to wear that they accept even dressing in. For little girls this can be an even harder task and that’s why we recommend a Nordstrom exclusive called the Blue by Betsy Johnson “Iris” thong sandal. It’s comfortable, lightweight, and adds some charm to your child’s extremities. With a Nordstrom promo code you can pick these sandals up for a remarkable price and display them for all of your friends to see.

Casual Shoes Every day is not a special event and sometimes your little one just needs something comfortable strapped around their feet. Kids often tire easily and if they travel with you they can easily fall out from fatigue. It’s important to find a shoe that looks great, feels amazing, and since kids are clumsy it needs to have a soft rubber bottom so that it grips well. The Converse Chuck Taylor shoe is perfect for such occasions. Not only does it look great but it’s lightweight and feels good too. Nordstrom has every possible situation covered with its array of kicks in stock. Load up on shoes for an affordable price with your Nordstrom promo code.

Back To School - Student Edition - Week 2 Day 3 - Klutz

disclaimer:  We received the products below for free in exchange for our honest opinions.  All opinions remain our own.
Klutz

If you don't already know about Klutz than you are truly missing some awesome learning/crafting experiences with your kiddos.  You can see our previous reviews here, here, and here

Mommy in GA's kids received "Felted Friends" and "My Style Studio" and here is what they thought:

Mommy in GA:
"Felted Friends"
We were kinda bummed because Mommy in Pa called and said she got her Klutz!!!!  Awww Dangit ours wasn't here yet   :(  I proceeded to straighten up the house and shower and heard the door bell, "YAY the UPS man brought our Klutz!!!" Needless to say the kids' wanted to open it right that minute. Me being mean old mommy made them wait till morning.

They got the felted friends out and proceeded to make a bunny, a mouse and a cat. They had a friend over and made a fox as well. They had a blast and the little friends turned out good, for the kids' tackling the projects themselves :)

It was easy to do and the instructions were easy enough that they did the whole thing themselves and just showed me the outcome. The only disappointment was that our tool that came with the kit busted, with the help of my 5 year old son    :(

"My Style Studio"
The girls' were SUPER excited about this one! They are getting older and more into fashion, hair and make-up :) They got this one out and started making different models and stuff and that 5 year old stinker kept trying to peel the stickers off the stencils, you are not supposed to do that!!

This was fun for them to stencil the girls and fashion designs, it comes with the paper, the stencils, pencils and everything else you need!! All you need is the talent and patience :)

They made severel stencils each before getting bored and moving on to something else (you all have or know little ones to know that that is an accomplishment for a company!!!)

Very happy with the new products KLUTZ is comming out with and ALWAYS happy to work with them :)

Mommy in PA's kids received "Straw Shooter Jets" and here is what they thought:

Mommy in PA:  This is an amazing kit.  They give you everything you need to make over 60 jets.  There are 30 separate sheets with 2 jets per sheet.  They also give you a stencil so you can make more when you run out of the other ones.  The kit also contains straws and the nose weights that are reusable.

Here is what the instructions look like.

My son wanted to make the Strawhawk jet first so we cut it out, folded where we needed to (love the little tips at the front of the book on how to do this easier), attached it to the straw and we were ready to fly (see pics below).

This is what the pages look like, two jets per page.

Here is what our completed jet looked like before we attached it to the straw.

This was the jet ready to fly, you take the colored straw and insert it into the black straw and blow to launch your jet into the air.

This was a really fun project and it only took a few minutes.  I think this would be great for a classroom when teaching about how airplanes fly.

Here is the informational page about the one my son made.

Each style of jet in the book also shows which jet in real life it is based on and has facts about that jet.  Just like everything else Klutz makes it is not only fun but educational : )

Surprising Ways to Save Money

disclaimer:  The information posted below was not written by us.  It is a sponsored post by chameleonjohn.com.  We are receiving compensation in exchange for this post but only post things we think our readers will find useful.

Frugal Living: Surprising Ways to Save Money

Every frugal living connoisseur knows the basics when it comes to saving some green: clipping coupons, using online coupon codes, shopping sales. For the savvy shopper, though, there are even more tips and tricks you can use to get your money to stretch as far as possible. Most of these methods are dependent on the kindness of sales associates, so always be sure to be polite and understanding (plus, as anyone who has worked in retail knows, all too often salespeople are seen as something other than a human, so being polite is also just the right thing to do). If you are unable to get a discount, be sure to thank whoever helped you for their time and effort.

  1. Software renewals

The key to getting discounts on software renewals is to be patient. As the expiration date nears, many companies will send you reminder emails, often containing coupon codes for as much as 80% off your renewal. Keep in mind that offers will probably start at 20% off—you need to hold out for the big price cuts to be given. Of course, it is unwise to wait until the very last moment for critical software; I usually take the coupon code given to me or take it from ChameleonJohn about one week before the expiration date.

  1. Sales

This tip is primarily useful for smaller stores, although sometimes works in big company-run stores as well. Of course as a smart shopper, you already know to always be on the lookout for sales, but sometimes even the sale price is still higher than your budget. To get an even lower price, don’t hesitate to ask a sales associate if the item will be discounted even further in the future. If it will be, salespeople will often go ahead and give you the deeper discount price. Even if the price isn’t scheduled to be lowered any more, sometimes the cashier can go ahead and give you a couple of dollars off. Of course, the magic to this method is to be unfailingly polite.

  1. Special Discounts

Many stores offer discounts for specific sections of the population, including students, seniors, military personnel and AAA members. Even if you don’t see a special discount advertised, don’t hesitate to ask. Even if the store doesn’t usually, sometimes cashiers can find a different way to give you a reduced price, if you are polite. Probably the best example of this (and one of the areas you can save the most) is student discounts in the electronics department. Around the time school starts, lots of stores start offering amazingly valuable deals, especially on laptops and computer accessories. You can literally shave hundreds of dollars off your bill at this point—some of the most popular companies offer free Microsoft Office suites for four years to students, as well as reduced price access to premium technical support and laptop protection.

  1. Manufacturer Freebies

One of the best kept secrets on the internet is how many freebies and online coupons are offered every day. One of the best sources for name-brand freebies is manufacturer websites, particularly for personal care items (think Proctor and Gamble) and nonperishable food (like General Mills cereal). Especially if the company has recently released a new product, they often will send you a sample size or coupon code for a travel size at no charge. And as an added bonus, great coupons and online coupon codes are often included with your shipment.

  1. Product testing

Before products go to market, they must be tested by real consumers in the real world. There are lots of sites to sign up to become a product tester—all you need to do is search Google for “(type of product you want to test) product tester.” Companies offer monetary compensation, free products or both.

With these simple tips and tricks, you will be saving money in no time. And always be on the lookout for your own creative ways to save!

Back To School - Student Edition - Week 2 Day 2- Gotcha Covered

disclaimer:  We received the products below for free in exchange for our honest opinions.  All opinions remain our own.
Gotcha Covered
The products we received were the shampoo, conditioner, detangler, styling gel, and the shield spray.

Another school year is beginning and that means tons of kids in close contact throughout the day, pretty soon it will be getting colder and the kids will start filling the closets at school with backpacks, coats, hats, and gloves...and possibly...lice.
It's not the nicest thing to talk about, just the thought of it makes me itch.  But it is the reality everywhere.  It is not a question of personal hygiene (anyone can get them) they don't go after the rich or the poor (again, anyone can get them) and they are a real pain in the behind to get rid of (trust us, we know).
Thank goodness for companies like Gotcha Covered who are making a difference by producing products that are made with natural ingredients that can be used daily to prevent lice instead of having to use harsh chemicals to treat the issue.
Mommy in GA and Mommy in PA each received the following products to review and here is what we thought:

Mommy in GA: Starting where mommy in Pa left off, boy do we know!!  I want to remind yall that I have THREE girls, 11, 9 and 8 years old.  We have never had to deal with the dreaded L word up until a few days before Thanksgiving 2 years ago.

The girls' came home from school and my oldest was scratching....EEEK!!  So I went and bought the best stuff from the stores and tried every home remedy, I took ALL of the kids' toys and packed them in the attic and washed everything that could be washed in HOT water and dried them (the sheets I did daily) , let's just say I FREAKED out!!

When we got in touch with Gotcha Covered, I have NEVER been so excited to work with a company!! The possibility to PREVENT before the issue!! We have not used alot of the product, I will tell you it smells way better and leaves your hair feeling way nicer than the products that get rid of the dreaded L!!

We intend to use the product fully around October and November and hopefully we can get a clean report and no more dreaded L in this house, this is definately worth the money and will save you money in the long run.

If it prevents the dreaded L you will not have to buy the expensive kits or pay more for water and your water heater, you won't have to buy extra shampoo to wash the gross products out, you won't have to buy extra laundry detergent or extra garbage bags, those are just the things off the top of my head!
Mommy in PA:  My daughter has been the one who has been using these products the most (she stole the detangler and the styling gel) and says that she likes the smell (kinda herbal) and says the products work good.

I personally have tried the shampoo and conditioner a few times and also agree that they work.  I was a little worried about the scents at first because I didn't know how strong they would be but nobody even noticed so it must fade pretty quickly.

I love the detangler and the shield spray the best.  You can just spray them in your hair in the morning and you are good to go for the day.
Gotcha Covered was kind enough to offer one lucky reader their very own set of Gotcha Covered products.  Be sure to enter via the Rafflecopter form below for your chance to win!

Back To School - Student Edition - Week 2 Day 2 - PanOxyl

disclaimer:  We received the product below for free in exchange for our honest opinions.  All opinions remain our own.
PanOxyl

So with it being back to school time again, most of us will remember the one thing that was guaranteed to try to ruin your first day back to school as a teenager...ACNE!  Well one of the differences between back when Mommy in GA and Mommy in PA were going to school versus nowadays is the fact that there are a lot more choices for taking care of that acne...one of those being PanOxyl.
PanOxyl makes a full line of acne products (spot treatment, creamy wash, foaming wash, and acne cleansing bar with varying amounts of Benzoyl Peroxide - the active ingredient).  The product Mommy in GA and Mommy in PA received was the PanOxyl 4% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Creamy Wash and below is what we thought.
Mommy in GA: I was happy to get this, my 11 year old is in the pre-teen phase, and was having some break outs :(  She was happy to try the PanOxyl and said she liked it ok. "It made my face a little clearer, but I don't like how I have to squeeze it out of the tube, rub it all over my face and then rinse it!" was her official comment.  Not really sure what she thought it was going to be, maybe she thought the face wash would wash her face for her?!

She has a lot of learning and I have a lot of teaching to do through this process as for the PanOxyl we give it 4 thumbs up, even if it would be better if she didn't have to do so much work!!!!
Mommy in PA:  I was thrilled to be able to get this product to try out as my daughter is 16 and has been getting more frequent breakouts.

She has been using it every couple of days and has noticed that her skin is clearing up some.  The only thing she doesn't like is that it really dries out her skin.  I'm sure it would work better if she used it everyday but with the skin dryness issue I told her she was better off not to overdo it.

She said she also likes that it is a cream wash and is easy to apply.  She said the scent isn't the greatest but it doesn't bother her much : )

Back To School - Student Edition - Day 4 - Nature's Bakery Fig Bars

disclaimer:  I received the products below for free in exchange for my honest opinions.  All opinions remain my own.

Nature's Bakery Fig Bars

It's amazing how many companies are now making healthy taste delicious.  Nature's Bakery is one of those companies.  They have turned the traditional Fig Bar into something that is not only full of flavor but also all-natural, kosher, and cholesterol-free.  Not to mention they come in a huge selection of flavors.

Mommy in PA:  I received a big box of Nature's Bakery Fig Bars.  It contained two of each flavor :  Strawberry, Mango, Lemon, Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry, Whole Wheat Fig, Peach Apricot, Raspberry,  and Vanilla Fig.  The only one I did not get a sample of was the Vanilla Raspberry (which I am sure would have been tasty too).

We were visiting with a couple of our neighbors when the package arrived.  I generously offered them each one of the bars and they LOVED them.  I can't recall which flavors they had chosen but I know they were gone rather quickly : )

My 9 year olds first choice was the Strawberry, it is his absolute favorite : )

I was personally more a fan of the Apple Cinnamon but I didn't get a chance to try the Strawberry because my son ate them all : )  I love how these are nice and soft and you really get a good taste of the fruit.  It is also great that they come packaged as two smaller bars...much better for sharing.

With the wide variety of flavors there is something for everyone.  What a wonderful way to get your family snacking healthier.  I love the fact that they are made from stone ground whole wheat, but for those of you who are still not a fan of the whole wheat taste...don't worry, they put more than enough fruit in these so you would never be able to tell : )

I never was able to get my daughter or my husband to try these but that is their loss...that just meant more for my son and I : )

To find out if these are sold in a store near you just head over here.

Back To School - Student Edition - Day 4 - Woats Oatsnack

disclaimer:  I received the product below for free in exchange for my honest opinions.  All opinions remain my own.
Woats Oatsnack
Are you looking for a healthy after school snack for the kiddos?  Well then Woats Oatsnacks may be right up your alley.  Woats are not your regular granola, they are a fusion of granola and flavors such as Nuts About Berries, Cookies 'n' Dreams, and Peanut Butter Graham Slam.
Nuts About Berries is a combination of oats with Southern roasted praline pecans and cranberries.

Cookies 'n' Dreams is a combination of oats with chunks of chocolate vanilla cream sandwich cookies.
Peanut Butter Graham Slam is a combination of oats with honey graham crackers and butter toffee peanuts.
Mommy in GA: It is no seceret that this mommy LOVES cookies n cream EVERYthing!!  The cookies n dreams gave me a healthier option to indulge and I rather enjoyed them (I did not share these with the kiddos!!)

The kids' really enjoyed the Peanut Butter Graham Slam woats .  They said they were really good but my 8 year old said, "these are definately not bite size!!"

Some of the chuncks are bigger than others but, if you enjoy that snack or bite size  they are soft enough to make them smaller :)

These are good to have on hand for the kids' when they get home and are "starving!!!" Super fast, all you do is open them, get what you want and seal the bag back up!
LOVE the re sealable bags' :)
To try some Woats of your own you can check out their website here.

Back To School - Student Edition - Day 3 - Fulcrum Gallery

disclaimer:  I received the product below for free in exchange for my honest opinions.  All opinions remain my own.
FulcrumGallery.com

FulcrumGallery.com offers an enormous collection of framed art and canvas prints in a huge selection of categories. Think of those cute back to school photos of your kiddos getting on the bus for their first day of school or maybe an educational print or two hanging on their bedroom wall of dinosaurs or a map of the world.  These would also be excellent prints for in the classroom.

Mommy in PA:  Decisions, decisions, decisions.  I spent hours browsing around on the site just trying to decide which print I wanted to review...and then it dawned on me to search "Titanic".  My son is a huge Titanic fan and has tons of books, movies, and even a Lego-type model displayed in his room.  What better way to tie all of his collection together than a nice piece of artwork.  But surely they wouldn't have anything like that...but I searched it anyway and lo and behold, there it was...a deck plan for the Titanic!

Not only beautiful but totally educational.  This was going to be the perfect art print for my son's room.  But you don't stop there, you get to select whether you want it in print or canvas, laminated or framed, cropping or no cropping, matted or unmatted  if you want canvas you select what kind of wrap you want, if you want framed which frame you want (huge selection), etc.  The choices of customization are amazing.  You can really tell that this company wants to make sure that you are 100% happy with your purchase.

They even have the framer and inspector sign on the back as part of their quality check.

I was amazed at how authentic the piece looked, right down to the crease marks and jagged edges.  Very authentic!
I was so excited when I got the shipping information and my son and I eagerly awaited our package.  It arrived a couple of days later (very speedy shipping for something so customized).  The packaging was perfect.  They really make sure that nothing happens to your artwork during shipping.  I was also super impressed and the mounting hardware (see photo below).

Easy to install mounting hardware.  Much more sturdy than the typical single nail setups.
Just look at how beautiful it is.  We liked it so much that my daughter has already selected a print that she wants to get for in her room about horses.  I still can't get over how many pieces of artwork you have to choose from.  There is something for everyone at FulcrumGallery.com.

FulcrumGallery.com has a special running this week of 50% off of their tree and flower art found here.

Back To School - Student Edition - Day 3 - ToiletTree Products Toothbrush Holder

disclaimer:  We received the following products for free in exchange for our honest opinions.  All opinions remain our own.

ToiletTree Products - Toothbrush and Toothpaste Holder with Drinking Cup

Mornings can be hectic enough without having to search for a missing toothbrush...well ToiletTree Products offers a great product to prevent the early morning chaos.  We each received one of their Toothbrush and Toothpaste Holders with Drinking Cups and here is our thoughts:

Mommy in GA:This is a really fun piece for the kids' bathroom! We got the family version in green, it holds 4 toothbrushes, one tube of toothpaste and 2 cups for rinsing!!  It all fits into a nice little space all neat and clean.....if only I didn't have so much other crap cluttering my counter!!

We have had many people comment on how cute it is  and what a space saver, you know the kids' toothbrushes and toothpaste are NOT strewn about the counter, and they are easy enough to use that my 5 year old remembers to put his toothbrush away :)

Mommy in PA:  We received the double in blue.  It was easy to assemble, as a matter of fact my nine year old assembled it all by himself : )  I love the fact that it is all plastic which makes for a super easy cleanup.  It is also appropriate for a kid's or adult's bathroom.  And the kids thought it looked really cool.

It really does help with the clutter issue also.  But like Mommy in GA pointed out, we too have a ton of other non-toothbrushing related clutter : )  Simple but functional makes this the perfect toothbrush holder for us.

Back To School - Student Edition - Day 3 - "Stewie Boomstein Starts School"

disclaimer:  I received the item below for free in exchange for my honest opinion.  All opinions remain my own.

"Stewie Boomstein
Starts
School"

Written by: Christine Bronstein
and
Illustrated by: Karen Young

Mommy in GA:  We received Stewie Boomstein Starts School and it really hit close to home as my 5 year old started Kindergarten this year, bittersweet, as he is the baby! He did pre-K but, if yall are anything like me you look for any way to ease into a new stage in life.  Kindergarten is VERY different from Pre-K!

We got this book and read it and honestly it was good for me and my 5 year old!  The basis of the book is how Stewie's first day was not that great because he had no idea there were so many rules to follow and a certain time you had to do certain things, so Stewie got in trouble.

In the middle of the night he realized that a map of what he is doing would help alot so he and his parents' made one.

The next day he knew what was going on and everyone was much happier.

All of my kids' ages 11 years down to 5 years told me that it was a good story and they enjoyed listening to it! My favorite part is that there is an interview between Stewie's mom and an expert at the end of the story.  They go through the basic stuff that sometimes you think to ask and some stuff you don't!!

This is good for any mom weather you have had multiple children or just one, a GREAT thought for your first child going into school, it may help you and your child better prepare for what to expect!

To purchase your own copy of "Stewie Boomstein Starts School" you can do so here, to follow Stewie on Facebook head over here, and to sign up for their emails you can go here.
