Newman's Own Organics - The Second Generation Review

Newman's Own Organic - The Second Generation

Above is the photo of the products that mommy in PA received to review.

When we first heard of Newman's Own Organics we automatically assumed it was part of the Newman's Own Company.  Well you know what they say about assuming...Newman's Own Organics actually started out as a division of Newman's Own in 1993 but in late 2001 it became it's own separate company.  We were amazed at how many products they offer, including pet foods.  To see a full list of the stores that sell Newman's Own Organics Products go here.  Here is their full line up of products and what we thought of the ones we received.

Pretzels

Newman's Own Organics has 10 different varieties of pretzels.  Salted and Unsalted Rounds, Spelt Minis, High Protein Minis, Honey Wheat Minis, Mighty Minis, Salted Sticks, Thin Sticks, and Rods.

Mommy in PA says:  We received the Mighty Pretzel Mini's, Salted Pretzel Rounds, and the Thin Pretzel Sticks.  We all thought that the Mini's and the Sticks tasted just like the pretzels we normally eat and we loved them.  The Rounds we thought tasted a little more bland than the others but were also good.

Mommy in Ga says:  We got the spelt pretzels, mighty pretzel minis , and the thin pretzel sticks, We also thought that the the thin pretzel sticks and the thin pretzels and the Minis were just as good as regular pretzels spelt were a little drier tasting if you know what i mean but they were still good also.  None of the bags went uneaten in this house!!

Family Recipe Cookies

Newman's Own Organic makes 5 different varieties of their Family Recipe Cookies.  They are Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate Chip, Orange Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, and Ginger Snaps.

Mommy in PA says:  We received the Chocolate Chip, the Orange Chocolate Chip, and the Ginger Snap.  We loved the Chocolate Chip and had them gone within the first two days they were here.  The Orange Chocolate Chip were not very popular but the Ginger Snap were pretty tasty.  The only complaint here is that they are a hard cookie.  We really liked the packaging though because they have a sticker type thing on the back that helps you reseal the bag.

Mommy in Ga says: We received the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, the Gingersnaps.  The Oatmeal chocolate chip were gone in no time, they were fantastic!! me and all the kiddos loved them!  The gingersnaps were good, but a little hard, hence the snap lol.....We (by that i mean mostly me!)  ate all of those also!  the kids said they were too spicy though.

Chocolate

Newman's Own Organics makes 6 different flavors of chocolate.  They are Dark Chocolate, Super Dark Chocolate 70% Cocoa, Mocha Milk Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Espresso Dark Chocolate, and Orange Dark Chocolate.

Mommy in PA says:  We received the Milk Chocolate, the Espresso Dark Chocolate, the Super Dark Chocolate, and the Orange Dark Chocolate.  Out of all the Chocolates the Milk Chocolate ranked number one with us.  I thought it tasted a little different from what we are used to but I liked it.  My daughter said it was OK and my son thought it was tasty.  The Super Dark Chocolate really caught me off guard.  I expected it to taste stronger than normal dark chocolate but in fact it tasted a little weaker to me.  I just couldn't stand the aftertaste.  The Orange Dark Chocolate and the Espresso Dark Chocolate were not our cup of tea here.

Mommy in Ga says:  We received the espresso dark chocolate, the orange dark chocolate, the dark chocolate and the Mocha dark chocolate.  I tried a small piece of each, i love how they are divided so you can just have a small square if you desire!  I personally didn't care for any of them but, i am not a huge fan of chocolate and when i do eat it i only eat the milk chocolate so i am not a good judge so this is where my mini panel (the kids and various friends and family!! ) come in very handy!  The kids liked it all except the orange chocolate.  They said the other ones smelled and tasted kinda like coffee (the taste was a guess as they have never had coffee but, smelled plenty of it!!) A friend of mine that loves dark chocolate told me that they were fantastic!!

Fig Newmans

Newman's Own Organics makes 3 varieties.  Low Fat, Fat Free, and Wheat-Free/Dairy-Free.

Mommy in PA says:  We received the Fat Free Fig Newman's and I'll admit I was a little worried right away.  I was the only one brave enough to eat these and guess what, that's OK with me because I love them.  The centers are a little on the chewy side but they are delicious especially for a fat free product.

Mommy in Ga says:  We received the fat free also and we ate a few, the kids weren't crazy about them and then i put them up so my 3 year old couldn't reach them and i forgot they were there....i thought they were OK but not my favorite (of course i think my brain tells my body to reject anything that says fat free lol)

Newman-O's

Newman's Own Organics makes 6 varieties of their Newman-O's.  They are Original, Peanut Butter, Chocolate, Hint O' Mint, Ginger n' Cream and Wheat Free Dairy Free.

Mommy in PA says:  We received the Peanut Butter, the Chocolate, and the Ginger.  The Chocolate and the Peanut Butter all got rave reviews the cookie part itself was delicious and so were the fillings.  My son especially liked the Chocolate.  I much prefer the Peanut Butter.  The cookies almost have a chocolate cake like taste to them, very tasty.  The Ginger ones were not a hit.  The only thing that was disappointing about these was that there needs to be some way to reseal the package.

Mommy in Ga says: We received the original, the chocolate and Ginger n creme.  The original were the biggest hit, followed up by the chocolate and coming in last was the ginger.....again.  The kiddos just aren't a fan of that ginger!! Although that did not stop them from finishing the package so i would say they were at least okay!!

Chocolate Cups

Newman's Own Organics makes 5 varieties of their Chocolate Cups.  Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Dark Chocolate Peppermint Cups, Dark Chocolate Caramel cups, and Milk Chocolate Caramel Cups.

Mommy in PA says:  Chocolate Cups?  What Chocolate Cups?  Just joking, we received one of each one of the varieties and they were all gone shortly after opening.  They were all delicious but I was really impressed with the Dark Chocolate Peppermint Cups.  They were heavenly.  My daughter was even fooled by the Dark Chocolate Caramel Cups because she doesn't even like dark chocolate but she liked them.  We really like the packaging in these also.  They come in a little plastic tray that holds the candies in place.  Even with the temperature in the house pushing almost 90 degrees the chocolates held up very well.

Mommy in Ga says:  ha ha mommy in Pa i tried to tell my kids there was no chocolate but, they caught me red handed!!!  The peanut butter cups were the favorite here although my 9 year old liked them all!!  I personally liked the caramel cups (wish they would have been milk chocolate but the dark wasn't bad either!)

Pop's Corn

Newman's Own Organics makes 3 varieties of Pop's Corn.  They are Butter, Light Butter, and Unsalted.

Alphabet Cookies

Newman's Own Organics makes 3 varieties of their Alphabet Cookies.  They have Cinnamon Graham, Vanilla, and Chocolate.

Mommy in Ga says: We received the ABC cookies  the kids ate all of the ABC cookies without me :(  but apparently they were tasty too!! Like mommy in Pa we love the resealable bag, it makes it easy and keeps it fresh instead of having to transfer from your product package to a ziploc!!

Balsamic Vinegar & Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Newman's Own Organic makes Balsamic Vinegar available in two sizes and Olive Oil also available in two sizes.

Coffee

Newman's Own Organics makes 7 varieties of coffee.  They are Newman's Special Blend, Newman's Special Decaf, Nell's Breakfast Blend, Newman's French Roast, Cafe Almond Biscotti, Columbian Especial, and Vanilla Caramel.

Dried Fruit

Newman's Own Organics makes 6 varieties of dried fruit.  They are Raisins, Cranberries, Pitted Prunes, Apples, Apricots, and Berry Blend.

Mommy in PA says:  We received the Apricots and the Berry Blend.  My son and I both loved the Apricots but my daughter did not.  The fruit blend was delicious also getting thumbs up from 2 out of 3 people.  The fruit blend was just a smidge on the bitter side but still very yummy.  I think it would be great to mix in with a snack mix for a fruity kick.  We loved the resealable packaging.

Mommy in Ga says: We received the raisins and the cranberries.  The raisins were okay, we shared with the kids cousins one afternoon and the kids liked them as much as any other raisins!  The cranberries were hilarious to watch.....my kids are not adventurous when it comes to their fruit so i did not tell them what they were eating my 3 year old and 6 year old wanted a snack so i grabbed the bag out and handed them each 1 and told them to try it and they kept asking what it was and i wouldn't tell them.  Finally they both put them in their mouths and were eating them and at the same time they both said"ewwww that is yucky mommy!!!"  They threw them out but, i tasted one and they are pretty good as far as a cranberry goes!!

Hermits

Newman's Own Organics makes 3 varieties of their Hermits.  They are Original, Cinnamon, and Ginger.

Mommy in PA says:  I was the only one brave enough to try the Hermits also.  I honestly was a little hesitant when I saw the word molasses.  Raisins don't scare me but molasses does.  These were actually pretty good.  Not something I'd go out and buy on a regular basis or anything but they were actually above my expectations.

Mommy in Ga says: These were not included in my box but that is aokay, doesn't seem like it would be up our alley!!!

Mints

All of Newman's Own Organics Mints come in two package sizes.  They are available in these flavors: Cinnamon, Ginger, Peppermint, and Wintergreen.

Mommy in PA says:  We received one of each tin of mints.  This was my favorite batch of things to test because we got to see some funny faces.  The Cinnamon, Peppermint, and Wintergreen all got thumbs up from everyone and they all made comments like "I think I've tasted this before", not so much for the Ginger Mints.  The Ginger Mints made my son say "Good but Spicy, I need a drink!" and my daughter said "OOOOOH!!!!" with her hand waving rapidly in front of her mouth.  I thought they were pretty good but they did make my tongue burn a bit.

Mommy in Ga says:  We received all of the flavors and my kids have all kept a tin for themselves even though the mints are long gone!  The tins were their favorite part of the whole thing!! We opened the peppermints as soon as we got the box and i only got one of those, meaning the kids ate the rest!  Then we opened wintergreen and they loved those as well!!  We opened the cinnamon and the ginger while we had a few friends and family over and the cinnamon were a big hit with everyone....the ginger not so much!  The kids spit them out (in the defense of my children i am not much of a ginger fan unless it is in a cookie!!)

Royal Tea

Newman's Own Organics makes Organic Black Tea and Organic Green Tea .  The Organic Black Tea comes in two different sizes.

Licorice

Newman's Own Organics makes 7 varieties of their licorice.  The flavors are Sour Strawberry, Sour Mango, Sour Apple, Sour Cherry, Black, Strawberry, and Pomegranate.

Mommy in PA says:  We received one of each package of Licorice.  The Sour Apple was the tastiest licorice any of us had ever tasted.  We all agreed that it really wasn't as sour as most sour apple flavored items but it was way more tasty than any sour apple thing we've tried before.  My kids also agreed that the Sour Strawberry wasn't very sour either and my son added in that it was delicious.  My son said that the Strawberry tasted too plain.  I love how the sticks of licorice are covered in sugar it makes it look super fancy.  We didn't really care for the Sour Mango, Sour Cherry, Black, or Pomegranate.  Wish these came with resealable ends on the packaging.

Mommy in Ga says:  We also received all 7 flavors, I love the variety, because there are 6 of us here and you know that not everyone likes the same things!!  My 9 year old LOVED the sour Mango and also liked the other flavors except the pomegranate and the black licorice.  Sour Apple was loved by the few who got to taste it but, my niece was over and LOVED it , she asked me where i got it and asked me to buy some cause she could eat like 10 packs lol.   All of the flavors were a hit and i will go ahead and tell yall every pack got eaten within a 2 week period (except the black licorice, nobody here cared for that flavor)  I also am all about the resealable packaging, i think all products of all sorts should have them!!

Pet Products

Newman's Own Organics also makes a full line of pet food products.  They have both dry and canned dog and cat food along with a good selection of treats for pets.

Mommy in PA says:  My dogs devoured their food (both the dry and the canned).  We always feed them their dry food first and follow up with a treat, well they didn't wait for the treats.  I guess they thought the regular food was treat enough.  The snack sticks were their favorite treat.

Mommy in Ga says:  We received a bag of dry food, 2 small cans of wet food, 2 large cans of wet food and the snack sticks and peanut butter snacks.  My miniature pincher (whom my kids named big red LOL) Liked all of the foods and i would like to point out the canned food did not smell as bad as the regular canned food you buy!  He ate all the different kinds which surprised me cause he is usually pretty particular!!

He also enjoyed the snack sticks the most but, also likes the peanut butter ones....just not as eagerly!!

Above is the photo of the products mommy in PA received to let her pets try out.

Above is a picture of Hansel enjoying his Newman's Own Organics canned cat food.  He loved it so much that for about two weeks after we got it everytime a package came he wouldn't leave us alone.  He actually growled at us when we tried to move the can away from him for a moment.

Stay tuned on Wedensday for your chance to win our 4 favorite products!  Can you guess what they are?
