"All for a Sister"
by Allison Pittman
"All for a Sister" is book three in a series of novels by author Allison Pittman. Book one and two being "All for a Song" and "All for a Story". Allison enjoys writing her stories about the Roaring Twenties.
Celeste DuFrane is one of the main characters in "All for a Sister". Celeste's family consisted of her mother (who brought wealth to the family through her family), her father (who was working on how to make color films), her brother (Calvin), and her sister (Mary, who was actually deceased before Celeste was even born).
Dana Lundgren is the other main character in the story. Dana, who is a few years older than Celeste, is being held in a correctional facility for a crime that never happened.
The story is a combination of the past, the future, and pages from Celeste's mother's confessional letters that Celeste receives upon her mother's death. The story ranges from the early 1900's to the mid 1920's and also follows Celeste's path to becoming a movie star and Dana's release from the facility after many years.
But there are secrets...lots of secrets that eventually make everything so clear. Like why did Celeste's mother leave Dana a sizeable inheritance? Why was this poor child locked up in a correctional facility since she was 12 years old? You will just have to read to find out.
Mommy in PA: What a great read!!! This book grabs you from the second chapter (the night that Mary dies) and keeps you hooked until the very end. Just when you think you figured something out...there is so much more. More secrets, more lies, more injustice. And that's just from one character.
I loved the variation in the main characters from Celeste (rich girl, spoiled by her father, aspiring movie star)and Dana (daughter of a staff member, from a poor family, spent most of her life up to this point in a correctional facility).
You will witness what kind of effect the death of one child has on this entire family. And how one student just out of high school changes the life of one lady by being friends with "the enemy". Nothing is how it seems in this page turner.
I will admit that I was a little confused with all the back in forth in time in the book but I realized a few chapters in that the story wouldn't work any other way. If we knew too much about the past or present too soon than the story would have known way too much way too soon. Thanks Allison for keeping us in suspense : )
