"Cowgirl Trail"
by Susan Page Davis
This book is about the Rocking P Ranch in Texas owned by the Porters. The story starts out with Maggie, the rancher's daughter when she is still a young girl and wanting to go for a ride on her horse. One of the hired hands, Alex Bright, is put in charge of looking after her. Little do either of them know what the future holds.
Maggie's mother ends up falling ill and needs to be hospitalized in another state, Maggie's father sends her along to help with her mother. When Maggie returns there are a lot of things that have changed at the Rocking P. Will Maggie be prepared to take on the responsibilities that await her?
Mommy in PA: This was a great book! I requested it mainly because I thought it would be something my daughter would enjoy as it seems she loves stealing all of my books : ) I figured it would be an ok read but didn't expect to like it as much as I did.
This is a very "girl power" book. If you are looking for something motivational than this one is for you. Maggie's character is very likeable and I love how the author really gets into describing the personalities of all of the characters, even including some background info so that you can really get a feel for the characters. You have your typical "good guys" and "bad guys" but who they really are will surprise you.
This is not your typical western romance, there is so much more to this story. Illness, injuries, stampedes, pranks gone wrong, etc. this book will keep you on your toes.
What will Maggie do when the cowhands are wanting to strike? Is there more than just friendship in Maggie's and Alex's future (or is there just too much weighing against them)? What is wrong with Maggie's father? You will just have to read it to find out : )
