"How High Will You Climb?"

disclaimer:  I received the following book for free from BookLook Bloggers in exchange for my honest opinions.  All opinions remain my own.

"How High Will You Climb"
by John C. Maxwell

Mommy in PA:  "How High Will You Climb" is an abridgment of "The Winning Attitude" by John C. Maxwell.  Maxwell gives his thoughts about how we are never truly alone and that God helps guide us through problems and helps us correct our negative attitudes into positive attitudes if we just follow his words in the Bible.

He describes a person as being like an airplane.  We keep our noses up by using a positive attitude and not letting things bring us down.  "Problems" are not really problems but more like obstacles (much like turbulence) that can bring our plane crashing to the ground unless we find ways to grow from our mistakes.  He basically compares a plane's altitude to our own attitude.  The better your attitude the higher you will fly...gotta love that motivation!

There are four main sections of the book (each having 3-4 of the chapters).  Section one is about considering your attitude (attitude can be the difference of success versus failure), section two is about the construction of your attitude (why we are the way we are), section three is about the crashing of your attitude (did I make the right decision at the wrong time?), and section four is about changing your attitude (eliminating the negatives).

John gives examples throughout the book of times in the Bible when people were in similar situations that we come across and how they dealt with them.

I love that he gives good examples of all of his ideas.  There wasn't one time in this book where I was left wondering what he was talking about.  At the end of every chapter he has a review section.  It is called the "Attitude Application".  Basically it makes you take what he explains in that chapter and apply it to something in your current life.

The "Study Guide" in the back is a great resource.  I think that it would be handy to reassess yourself every few months to see how far you've come.

This book fits great into the positive thinking mode I am in right now : )
