Skoy Towel

  So are you looking for the perfect product to go along with your Skoy Cloth and your Skoy Scrub?  Well we were : )  Fortunately the company came out with the Skoy Towel and we were lucky enough to each get one to try out.

  The Skoy Towel is made out of 100% recycled polyester and and features print on both sides in your color choice of red, green, or blue.  It is microfiber so it easily cleans up messes without the use of cleaning products but unlike other microfiber cloths it won't stick to your fingers.  These towels are super soft and super absorbent.  They measure 18 by 24 inches and are available at www.skoycloth.com for $12.99.

  Mommy in GA: I got the green and LOVE it although seeing it in blue makes me think i need skoy towels in EVERY color!! 

If you are like me the way things feel make a huge difference......this Skoy towel is sooooooo soft! The kids all came running and wanted to feel how soft it was lol and they were talking about the cool design too.

The uses are a list of forever! I hang it on the oven door for easy hand drying (that in itself is a big job in this house😂) Other jobs we have tackled we can dry the whole counter and bar with just the Skoy towel (if your kids wring out a dishcloth like mine you are amazed right now) too clarify my counters and bar usually look like a small lake when they are done😂😂 no problem for the Skoy towel😉

Also, spills have nothing on this new towel either, it is pretty awesome.

  Mommy in PA:  This thing is AMAZING!!!  I decided to clean out my fridge and I mean really clean it out.  I took out all of the shelves and washed them down and used the Skoy Towel to dry.  Well my fridge is pretty big and there was a lot to dry, well the Skoy Towel worked perfectly and continued to dry down to the very last shelf.  That totally amazed me, I figured for sure I would have to get out other dish towels to finish but nope : )  

  I always keep it handy by hanging it over my oven door handle and it looks so cute, and if you want to mix it up a bit just flip it over : )

  My daughter and her boyfriend were over one evening and we decided we were going to sit in the adirondack chairs but it had rained earlier : (  No problem for the Skoy Towel, it dried them both and still would have been able to dry more.  Like I said...they are AMAZING!

So after a week of spreading the news about all of these Earth Friendly products we figured what would all that hard work be worth without the ability to see the Earth in all of its beauty...that's where Invisible Glass steps in : )

clean windows.  I was finally able to reach the tops without having to use a step stool, which in turn made my window cleaning go a lot quicker : )  

I also like the Invisible Glass formula, it did leave my windows so clean that my twelve year old actually said he was having a hard time telling if the windows were open or not.  LOL

Now I did notice some streaking but it was actually because of some kind of residue on the window which I was finally able to scrub away and no more streaks : )

And last but not least, the wipes...these are AWESOME!!!  They worked great for cleaning our Ipad which has a tendency of getting very smudgy.  The wipes also worked great on our computer monitor.  

This is a wonderful line of products that I would recommend to everyone : )

Fresh Wave Packs are nice to air out my trash can (for poopy diapers!!) Also a nice refresher for the car (you know for all those specialized smells from the backseat😂😂)

  Mommy in PA:  This was an exciting review opportunity for me, between the pets, the guys, the depends...there is almost always a funky smell or two lurking around.

  The very first thing I did was take out two of the Fresh Wave Packs and stuck them in my husband's work boots.  It's one of those things where you are just sitting there, minding your own business, reading a book, watching tv, etc. when all of a sudden the smell smacks you in the face and you're like "Ewww, what stinks?" ...leather work boots are the worst when it comes to holding in foot odor but the Fresh Wave Packs made an instant difference and I just make sure I toss them back in when he gets home.  Now he doesn't like having to take them out all the time but I don't like his foot odor, so ha ha...we're even : )

  The Fresh Wave Spray is my favorite odor eliminator spray ever.  It comes in a cute little sprayer bottle that has the finest sprayer mist I've ever used.  And it makes this cute little puffing sound when you squeeze the handle...it is just so darn cute : )  Oh and works awesome too!!!  I love the smell, I like to spray it on my couch in the morning and then I can enjoy the scent all day.  It really is a fresh, clean scent.  Kinda reminds me of eucalyptus mixed with some kind of mint.  Hard to explain but really lovely.

  Now the Fresh Wave Gel left me with a bit of a dilemma.  I wasn't quite sure if  I wanted it by my garbage can (for the depends) or if I wanted it by my pet rodents...well I opted for the rodent cage because even with their weekly cage cleaning they can still really stink up the place...especially in the summer.  Well I put the Fresh Wave Gel about a foot away from the cage and I honestly haven't smelled the rodent smell since.  

  So in closing, I really LOVE the Fresh Wave line of products.  This will be something I will be purchasing.  Sometimes it is hard to find products that work well and are good for your family and the environment but this totally does just that.

Washing Wednesday - Citric Acid (Taking orange sunblock stains out of clothing)

Citric Acid  

  Summer is almost here but the temps have already reached high enough to break out the swimming suits and most definitely the sun block.  Speaking of sun block we had quite a bad experience with some on Memorial Day weekend.

  Mommy in PA and her family decided to go out fishing and were making sure they applied and reapplied their sun block throughout the day as it was a scorcher and being out on the open water only seems to make it that much worse.  It was a beautiful day, we caught lots of fish, we went down to the in-laws for a cookout afterwards, it was great.

  Then the next day I went to put our clothes in the laundry and I noticed that my son and I had orange stains all over our clothes.  We have the occasional iron issue with our water here but these hadn't even made it in the washing machine yet.  And then I realized that where the stains were was where the sunblock had been touching : (

  I was so bummed...I had only wore the shirt that one time, and now it was ruined...or was it?!?!  I did a search online and found others had the same problem, some sunblocks will do this to clothing, I never had this issue before so I read on and on until I happened upon a post about citric acid.

  Citric Acid is what canners use when canning tomatoes in place of lemon juice.  And another thing...this lady said it would take away the orange stains.  Sign me up!!!

  So that evening we went to the store and picked up some citric acid (you can find it in the canning department).  And another great thing...it was under $3!!!

  I got it home and first attempted to make a paste with it and applied it to the shirt directly and rubbed it in...nothing.  I knew I should have read more about it but instead decided to just wing it and make a solution to soak it in.  I put a couple of tablespoons of the citric acid in a bowl of warm water and submerged the shirt.  I am very impatient when it comes to these kind of things and was beginning to think it was a failure when I noticed about ten minutes in that the water was starting to get a yellowish look.  I rung the shirt out and resubmerged it and left it in awhile longer.  After about 30 minutes the water was definitely yellow and the stains were starting to disappear.  I continued the process for quite awhile, not sure exactly how long but it worked.

  This got me thinking about a tank top I had that was originally white with gray polka dots that now had orange spots because of the iron in our water.  This shirt was surely doomed due to the fact it had already been through the wash and dry cycles many times as I used it only under other shirts.  But I decided to give it a try anyway and got very good results with it as well.  Now there were a couple spots where it didn't come out completely but enough that I would not be worried about wearing it alone.

  I am pretty sure my family thought I was crazy that night because I kept looking for more clothes to try this on.  We have used it on probably ten shirts now with very good results.  Keep in mind that it is not exactly a miracle and not all orange stains will totally go away but they definitely seem to get lighter anyway.

Above is the t-shirt before the Citric Acid bath.  As you can see the iron in our water really messes up whites when the water softener isn't working properly : (

You will need a bowl/bucket (depending on the size of the item) of warm water, Citric Acid (I use about two to three tablespoons), and your item...in this case, the orangeish t-shirt.

This was after just ten minutes of soaking.  You can see how yellow the water is turning already. 

I left this particular shirt soak over night due to how orange it was but most items you just keep checking until the orange stain is gone or in some cases almost gone.  This shirt didn't come totally orange free but it is a lot better than it was : )

Country Save Laundry Detergent

  So in our quest for helping our families understand how important it is to use healthy and/or environmentally friendly products we often come up short when it comes to the "money saving" part of our name.  But in all fairness we do understand that research and some of the techniques used to make healthier/environmentally friendly products does cost more.  We really lucked out on this one though...Country Save has it all.

  If I did my math correctly it looks like it costs about 12 cents a load using the powder version purchased off Amazon in bulk.  You get 40 lbs. of powder detergent for under $80.  Hey, guess what I just found...a chart that compares prices to leading brands, and guess what...my math was correct, chart found here.

  Now onto the health/environmental aspects of this product.  It is Fragrance and Dye Free, 100% Phosphate-Free, Completely Biodegradable, Safe for Septic Tanks, Cruelty-Free, No Animal Testing, No Animal By-Products, and is ideal for sensitive skin.

  Country Save was kind enough to send us each a big sampling of their Powder Laundry Detergent and some of their Powdered Oxygen Powered Bleach, try saying that three times fast LOL!

  Mommy in GA: There are A LOT of us and when you do as much laundry as I do........ This is one of the BEST review opportunities EVER!!!!!!!  I do a ton of laundry and have also tried out A LOT of different brands.

With so many kids you have somewhere you can use anything under the sun and not have a reaction and you can have others that are SUPER sensitive..... I got lucky and have a few of both :) So to save money we try to stick with the detergents that are gentle.

Country Save is in that market!!!! It is good for sensitive skin and it is easy on the pocket...... your clothes smell clean and the Powdered Oxygen Powdered Bleach helps keep those white clothes white and that includes your stinky socks looking and smelling better :)

  Mommy in PA:  I too was very excited about trying out this laundry soap.  I don't do nearly as much laundry as Mommy in GA but I too have one child with no sensitivities and one with sensitivities.  Let me tell you...we had no issues at all.  I also love the fact that the Oxygen Powered Bleach actually did help my clothes look whiter.   I have issues using some products in my water as we have a high iron content.  Some products actually turn my clothes orange because I guess they bind with the iron particles, not in this case though : )  

  I will admit I am not a huge fan of things being fragrance free but I just added a little bit of another product in sprinkle form to the wash on the loads that I really needed fragrance (towels and bedding mainly).  The product performed well and left my clothes feeling and smelling clean.  I was even surprised how well it cleaned my husband's greasy work clothes.

Microfiber All Purpose Cloths with Strips

Mommy in GA: These are fantastic!!!  I used mine everywhere from the kitchen (all surfaces, especially great for stubborn messes in the fridge or on the floor!!) to the bathroom....no worries the bathroom has its very own! They work for dusting in a pinch too! Best part is you use them, wash the, repeat!!!!!

Mommy in PA:  I LOVE these ones!  I use them for anything and everything.  The strips really help make it easier to clean up stuck on dirt.  I've used these for cleaning my stovetop, dusting, washing windows, etc.  They are a great multi-purpose cleaning cloth.

Microfiber All Purpose Cloths with Activated Carbon

Mommy in GA: These work better for dusting lol! These would be great for any surface that is more likely to scratch :)

Mommy in PA:  These too were great!  I used these inside my house for dusting and outside for buffing the wax off of our truck.  It was great because they are super soft so you don't have to worry about them scratching anything and they clean up wonderfully.

Microfiber Sponge Cloths

Mommy in GA:  These I actually didn't use for cleaning I used these to collect water from my wet dishes as a drying towel.... not my best idea :(  Haha the brain was on delay that day.

Mommy in PA:  I just really don't care for the feel of these ones.  I don't know about all of you but I have a hard time cleaning with something if I can't stand the way it feels in my hand.

Antibacterial Viscose Cloths

Mommy in GA: These I only used in the kitchen and I also used one in my bathroom, great for countertops and door knobs :)

Mommy in PA:  These were ok for wiping down my countertops and the added antibacterial factor just made me feel better about using them instead of a regular cloth. 

Microfiber Window Cloths

Mommy in GA: I am not a fan of these ones they do have a strange feeling and also streaked the bathroom mirror.  They might be good for cleaning the outside windows??? Maybe I will try that the weather is starting to get nice here :)

Mommy in PA:  My husband tried these on our truck windows and he did not like them.  They didn't really do anything but smear the water around.  I personally just haven't used them for anything because they feel weird.

"Everything That Remains" :  A Memoir by the Miniamalists

  As you can tell from the title this is a book about minimalism.  Minimalism is basically people living with only the things they need and not holding onto a bunch of useless possessions. 

 

 

  Joshua and Ryan were both making good money in high paying jobs.  After Joshua's mother passes away and he is getting divorced he realizes that although he had pretty much anything he wanted he just wasn't happy. 

 

 

  Joshua is the first one to attempt the minimalist lifestyle.  He eventually convinces Ryan to try it too.  Now they have their own website TheMinimalists.com where they keep people updated on how their own minimalist lifestyle is going along with tips for others to start their journey to a life with little extra baggage. 

 

 

  The book takes us from the beginning of Joshua's lifestyle change the whole way through to their success on their website and the books that followed.

 

 

  Mommy in GA:  Mommy in GA hasn't had a chance to read the book yet but says she will get around to it once her kids leave the house LOL!  You know how kids are and wanting to save every little thing they've ever owned.  "Don't throw that away...it's my favorite". 

 

 

  Mommy in PA:  This was a great book, I didn't want to put it down.  It really inspired me to start taking inventory of all the useless stuff I have been holding onto for years.

 

 

  Mommy in GA and I were so excited to get a chance to review this book because almost every time we talk (which is almost daily) we talk about clutter and trying to keep our houses tidied up.  Less possessions = Less time cleaning!

 

 

  The book is mainly about Joshua's experiences but is peppered throughout with helpful and sometimes comical comments from Ryan.  The only thing I didn't care for is how they put the numbers for reference in the text but then you had to go the whole way to the back of the book to find out what Ryan said.  I think they should have just put his comments at the bottom of the pages to make it easier.  There were times I would read three or four pages before I realized I had missed some of Ryan's comments. 

 

 

  I love the part about them packing up all of Ryan's stuff in his apartment, the "Packing Party"  (some packing up just involved covering the furniture so that it would have to be uncovered to access it.  Then Ryan would only take out items that he actually needed for the next 21 days.  After the 21 days was up then they would donate, sell, or trash the remaining items.  If it wasn't for the rest of my family I would do this in a heartbeat.  I know for a fact that there are things in my son's room that haven't been played with in over a year.  But I know for a fact too that if I went and got rid of something he'd ask for it the next day.

 

 

  This book has really motivated me.  I've gathered up about 7 bags of clothes that need hauled off to Goodwill and two big boxes of stuff that I plan on selling or donating and I still have tons of stuff to go through.  Thanks Joshua & Ryan for making me see that my time is way too valuable to spend it all cleaning up and organizing the things I don't really need.

Borax (Thank You Purex insiders'!!!)

Now to tell you about my FAVORITE purpose for borax: 

HOME-MADE Laundry Detergent

This is super easy to make and also super wallet friendly :)

My post is a little late but, the good news is I am also including my fels naptha review in this one too :)

I received both products from my friends' at purex insiders'  :)

 

 

To make your homemade laundry deterget, I got the recipe from a friend and made my own tweaks to it to fit my life.  I have 4 kids so when detergent is a little too pricey this is my fall back!  Although you have to admit PUREX is very fair priced and they run a lot of good deals'!

I used my coupons and samples of Borax and fels naptha from purex insiders' and I also bought oxi clean (to help get those whites white) and a normal sized purex crystal (To get that great long lasting scent!!) and arm and hammer washing powder. I used a cheese grater to finely grate my  ONE bar Fels naptha into a pot and added 4 cups of water.  Put it on the stove over a medium- low heat and stir constantly till your fels naptha melts (about 10 minutes)

Next you get a 5 gallon bucket and pour your melted felsnaptha  into it and add 1 cup of Borax and 1/2 a cup of arm and hammer WASHING (Not Baking) powder, I also added about a 1/4 cup of the oxi clean and 1/2 my container of purex crystals, mix all of this together adding additional water to fill your 5 gallon bucket the rest of the way.

 

After mixing it well let it sit over night.

Okay now while I am waiting, I still had time and some products' on hand so I took and grated another ONE bar of fels naptha, got another 5 gallon bucket, dumped just the grated fels- naptha (DO NOT melt this one!) and my almost full box of borax, the rest of my arm and hammer washing soda, a little oxi clean (this can vary on what you want to add!) and my purex crystals, Stir well and ta da you have a pwder laundry detergent as well!!  Put a lid on it and set it in the laundry room, ready to go!

Now that I had a good night sleep I am ready to finish my liquid batch :)

 

I pull my 5 gallon bucket out, mix your liquid well,  and get my containers' ready, (I used ALL purex containers and 1 one gallon milk jug) you fill your container with half water and half of your laundry detergent and give it a little shake and put it away to be used!

If you have an H ~e washer you should get about 625 loads from one batch of the liquid and I am not really sure how much I get out of my partial thing of powder. The liquid will vary in color depending on how much purex crystals you add or if you use any at all.

 

If I had paid for the fels naptha (.97 a bar) and 3 dollars in change for your borax and washing powder each and another 3 or 4 dollars for your purex crystals BUT, If you just do the liquid you could buy 3 bars of fels naptha and you would have enough of your other stuff to get at least 3 batches, that is 1875 ish loads of laundry!!! For a whopping 15ish dollars, that is what I call a bang for your buck!!!!

Baby Cleaning Wipes

Mommy in Ga: I received these and just have to say, even with children that are now 11 years, 9 years, 8 years and 5 years, I found all kinds of purposes to use these!!!
I put these in the car for the days' when your kids' ate something in the car on the way to wherevver we were going and they got more on their bodies than in their tummies!! You just rip the packet open, wipe the kiddos from head to toe and pitch the trash :)

Mommy in PA:  I didn't receive any samples of this type.

Antiperspirant Wipes for Women

Mommy in Ga:  These were pretty cool, a little strange to put deoderant on with a wipe!! I tested mine at home but, these would be a perfect addition to my car storage stuff!!  I have more than once been on my way to work and realized in the rush to get out the door I forgot my deodorant :(  No worries I keep some in my car but the L.A Fresh would be way better, and they wouldn't melt!!

Mommy in PA:  I actually used one of these before my thirty minute jog session the one day and was surprised at the results.  No odor issues at all and only the slightest bit of dampness.  The only thing I didn't care for was that it left my armpits feeling a little on the tacky side when I first applied it.  These would be great for keeping in your gym bag!

Shoe Shine Wipes

Mommy in PA:  When my mom came over the other day she noticed that she had some dirt on her black leather shoes.  I gave her the wipes and they worked perfectly at removing all of the dirt and giving her shoes back their luster, they looked new again.  I would recommend these for people who have to keep their shoes looking great at all times.  Just throw a couple of these in your purse/pocket and you are good to go : )

Antibacterial Wipes

Mommy in Ga:  Oh no! I ran out of the L.A Fresh baby wipes :(  Oh wait I have these and they are just as good :) phew, dodged that bullet!!

Mommy in PA:  I love the fact that these don't smell bad like some of the hand sanitizers do.  They didn't dry out my hands like the hand sanitizers either : )

Makeup Remover Wipes

Mommy in Ga:  I used these for the full makeup days, I don't know about yall but for me most make-up days are only partial make-up days lol!  These were great! Sometimes my skin is left irritated or sticky feeling but I had neither with these!!

Mommy in PA:  I love these!  I used mine to remove some mascara and let me tell you that it worked wonderfully.  I figured for sure it would make my eyes irritated but it didn't : )

Female Hygiene Wipes

Mommy in PA:  No irritation...need I say more?!?!  I could totally see carrying these in my purse for those public bathroom incidents when there is no TP.

Facial Cleansing Wipes

Mommy in Ga: Umm I beleive this is the one that I used when I was waiting in my car for whatever reason and I ended up using it to clean the dust off my dash! Now I know you are thinking 2 things right now:

Yes it does but just think of it as me giving my car a facial it worked great!!

Mommy in PA:  I didn't care for the scent but it worked well in removing the dirt from my face. 

Insect Repellent Wipes

Mommy in Ga: We don't wear alot of bug spray but these are nice for when your in the back yard and the skeeters are out trying to drain you of your blood like a vampire :)  They work well and we all still have bllod flow lol.

Mommy in PA:  These amazingly seemed to help keep the mosquitos at bay.

Nail Polish Remover Wipes

Mommy in GA: I did not get to use these but, if you read farther mommy in Pa will give you her thoughts!

Mommy in PA:  I was quite impressed with these.  I had applied some glittery nail polish to my nails and was having an impossible time getting it off with regular nail polish remover.  I got the LA Fresh Wipes packet out and after quite a bit of scrubbing (all glitter polish is bad for this) my nails were back to their plain Jane selves again : )  I also like the fact that they don't smell horrible like my usual nail polish remover...and no fluff balls all over like with the cotton balls/rounds : )

We think that these wipes would be perfect for any teacher because they can just keep some in their car or classroom in case they forget to put on their deodorant or need to clean their shoes, or need a quick clean up.

Mommy in PA:  I was so excited when this package showed up in my mail.  Not only did they send a full size package of the Snuggle Scent Boosters in the Lavender Joy scent but also a cute little Snuggle bear!!! 

 

  Now I must admit that I am typically not a huge lavender fan but I really like the scent of these scent pacs.  They really give my laundry a fresh, just laundered scent that lasts and lasts.  I'm a slacker when it comes to putting my laundry away and sometimes have baskets sitting in my living room for a week or more before they finally get put away.  This normally leads to some pretty dull smelling clothes by the time we get around to wearing them.  Not the case with the Snuggle Scent Boosters...even after a week in the basket and a few days in the drawer they still smelled like I just washed them : )  Now I catch myself purposely choosing out clothes that I know got washed with these because they just smell so much better.

 

  Speaking of washing...that's another great thing about the Snuggle Scent Boosters.  They come in pac form so all you do is toss them in at the beginning of your wash cycle.  One for regular loads or two for large loads.  No more having to remember to run down and put fabric softener in during the rinse cycle....YAY!!!  I used to have to set a timer every time or I would forget and have to re-rinse the load to add the fabric softener (Imagine how much water that wasted...ugh!).  No more wasted water here : ) 

 

  I'm currently down to my last two scent pacs so I will have to choose carefully what the last load will be before I get another bag.  I literally used this in every load of laundry I did (including my hubby's work clothes) but now that I'm down to the last two I will probably use it them on the throw blankets off the couch that currently smell somewhat dog like (thanks Archie! LOL).

Mommy in Ga:  I heard about Poopourri before we got to try it, My sister had gotten some (carried it in her purse on the go and everything!!) and told me how much she LOVED it! So when  we got the chance to work with them we jumped right on it!!!

 

I used this at my house, NO more stink when the little ones use the toilet, YAY!!!  My 9 year old was using everyday when she had to make a stink!!  She said boy mommy that stuff smells good!!!  Then I moved it out of their bathromm and she yellled from the bathroom, "Mommy the poopurri is MISSING and I NEED it!!!"

Mommy in PA:  I just want to start out by mentioning that the sayings on the bottles are absolutely hilarious!!!  Everyone I talked to in the days shortly after receiving the Poo~Pourri got to hear the funny sayings...my kids were even spreading the word : ) 

 

 

  We received the diaper pail spray, the original Poo~Pourri, Party Pooper, and Poo-Tonium.  I gave the diaper pail spray to my sister-in-law and she said it worked perfectly. The original scent reminds me a lot of the cream cheese mints that my mom used to make.  It is a very pleasant fragrance.  The Party Pooper seems to be a bit stronger than the original, I imagine they did that because of all the people that will be using it at a party.  The Poo-Tonium is the strongest that they make (this is what we make my hubby use when he heads to the bathroom). 

 

 

  All three of them work wonderfully.  Stupid me didn't read everything before the first couple of uses and we couldn't figure out why it wasn't working that well.  We were only spritzing it once in the bowl instead of spraying a few times to coat the water.  Be sure you get a film across the whole bowl for optimal results : ) 


Oh and on a side note, remove the charms from your spray bottles before using them.  I ended up losing one in my toilet : (
